What’s so incredible about an Ed Sheeran concert?

It may be the crowd interaction; no cheese, no gimmicks, and no fourth-wall blocking the audience from the artist’s performance. Instead, a crowd will become immersed in the music, screaming the lyrics, waving their smart-phone lights in unison to the beat, and partaking in the famous “Ed Sheeran Selfie."

It may also be the simplicity of the show. Sheeran has found the balance between performance and technology- his shows feature eye-candy visuals, dazzling light shows and symbolic video edits displayed on moving video panels, but also retain the primary focus, which is on the music itself. This balance puts Sheeran into the light as he performs, and captures the crowd, instead of leaving them in the dark.

Finally, it could be the music itself. Ed Sheeran is an incredible composer. His music reflects his personality, both in it’s tempo and meaning. The lyrics have deep connections to his own life and personal experiences, and he reflects it in his voice as he performs. While many new listeners would think that Sheeran travels with a complete band- that is far from true. Sheeran takes the stage solo, utilizing just his microphone, his guitar and an effects pedal to create multi-layer songs live, seamlessly and with incredible spirit.

At his recent stop in Unacasville, Connecticut at Mohegan Sun, Sheeran delivered on these three core elements. After a great opening set performed by fellow Irishman Foy Vance, Sheeran took the stage to a huge standing applause from his fans. He fed the audience with songs such as “Don’t," “Thinking Out Loud," “Tenerife Sea," and his other greatest work. Towards the end of the concert, Sheeran got interactive with the crowd, determined to make every fan leave with hoarse throats. He also ad-libed several hit songs from fellow composers and artists, proving that he’s a truly diverse artist, able to work with multiple genres, tempos and song structures.

Sheeran’s upcoming tour stop at Gillette Stadium on September 25th, 2015 should prove to be a great experience, if not better, for his fans. Not only will the Gillette Stadium show be full of the same energy brought by Sheeran at every show, it will also be the largest audience he has performed for live in the U.S.
